We’re bursting into Spring with a fresh list of must-see musical performances for April into May. Musicians and music venues go together like peanut butter and jelly and the region has some very tasty events on their musical menu. April 13 - The Queen  

Jamie And The Guarded Heart are bringing their three-piece lineup featuring Graham Travaglini to The Crown stage at The Queen in Wilmington on April 13. Armed with a pocket full of Springsteen / Petty / Clash influenced songs, they’re ready to hit the stage and continue to make their dream real.

With an opening set by Philadelphia indie rock group Mothman Properties and Delaware rock legend and best selling author John Faye. Get tickets to the show here.

 

April 18 - Elkton Music Hall

As a master musician and multi-instrumentalist, Vanessa Collier weaves funk, soul, rock, and blues into every powerful performance. With soulful vocals, searing saxophone, and witty songwriting, Vanessa is blazing a trail, racking up an impressive arsenal of honors.

Accolades she has accumulated so far include two Blues Music Awards for “Horn Player of the Year”, a third BMA for “Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year”, eight Blues Music Award Nominations (BMAs), a Blues Blast Award nomination, and more.

April 19 - Kennett Flash

Roberta Lea is a Virginia-based rising country music star. With a voice like cinnamon and a pen like butter, Roberta Lea is ready to give the world a taste of what she’s made of. It’s as though she’s a family recipe, kept hidden until now. Pursuing music at 35 may seem like it’s a late start for some, but for Roberta Lea, it’s ideal. April 26 - The Grand Opera House 

Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer, whose shows offer a musical celebration...a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be, and will become. His distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, and expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads, and the passion of gritty blues. Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. May 2- Listening Booth 

International Folk Music Awards 2017 “Artist of the Year”, Ordinary Elephant, captivates audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world. This husband and wife duo bring their award winning folk music to Listening Booth in Lewes Delaware on May 2 along with opener Reese Fulmer. Get tickets to the show here.

 

May 3 -  The Grand Opera House

Darlingside is a multi-genre band composed of Don Mitchell, Auyon Mukharji, Harris Paseltiner and David Senft, four likeminded multi-instrumentalists who first met at Williams College in 2009. Darlingside’s career has been defined by the elegance of their compositions and the unity of their four voices. Their talent for harmony and melodic world-building is part of what garnered praise from outlets like NPR, Rolling Stone and The New Yorker, and what has created demand worldwide for their extraordinary live performances. May 4 - Arden Gild Hall

Arden Concerts presents a special record release show with Delaware based indie rock band Death by Indie. Death by Indie’s short tenure of a band can be summed up in one word- busy. Releasing four EP’s and one LP in under three years, playing 50 shows across six states, they now excitedly usher in their newest release and sophomore album, 7 Day Farmers Market. Join them and openers, Perennial, from Connetticut, and Mavis the Dog from Pennsylvania, at Arden Guild Hall on May 4 for the album release show. Tickets are on sale now and can be bought here.

 

May 8 - Arden Music Hall 

WXPN Welcomes A "soon-to-be-iconic voice" (Rolling Stone), Grace Cummings, to Arden Gild Hall on May 8. Cummings is a contemporary folk musician from Melbourne, Australia whose songwriting is influenced by 20th century poets and luminaries, from Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan to Brett Whitely and Van Gogh, reflecting a strong connection to the Australian landscape. She has appearance at globally renowned music festivals including Womad, The Great Escape, End of the Road and Transmusicales and supported a host of venerated artists including Weyes Blood, Gareth Liddiard, J Mascis, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Ezra Furman.  Opening the show is Philly-based psych-punk band and Ladybug Music Festival Alumni The Lunar Year.
