Music Review: Diving Into "The Sequel" from Philadelphia bass virtuoso Coop A Loop

Coop a Loop is the solo project of Philadelphia bass player Eric Cooper, affectionately referred to as Coop. After years of laying down tasty, tight bass lines for countless bands across the city, Coop has embarked on his own adventure—unleashing colorful musical worlds with nothing more than a looper pedal and himself as the ensemble. With a focus on melody and electronic bass explorations that defy expectations of a “looping bass player,” his sound is both surprising and infectious. His latest album, The Sequel, features guest musicians, though he can just as easily command the stage solo or with a rotating cast of equally talented friends. Get to know his music before his set at Jam On The Grass Music Festival on September 20!
Take one look at Coop and you’ll know you’re in for some serious funk. Just like his outfits, his music is colorful, creative, and entirely his own. The Sequel serves up eight tracks of infectious rhythm—songs like “Bubbles” can get even the grumpiest curmudgeon toe-tapping, while “Greener Grace,” with its acoustic bass and nature sounds, creates an enchanting ambience that pairs perfectly with the Lord of the Rings–inspired album art. With award-winning drummer Rob Tait and powerhouse vocalist Maggie Mae joining the mix, this record is truly something out of this world.
